FUJIKURA's history

In 1885 Zenhachi Fujikura is manufacturing silk and cotton insulated winding wires in Awaji-cho. The similarity of the plait manufactured with the electric wire system manufactured in those days by the first Japanese electric supplier Tokyo Electric Lample, give him the opportunity to enter in the activity of electric wire and to open his first plant in Tokyo a few time later. Fujikura Ltd was born.
In 1901, Tomekichi Matsumoto, successor of Zenhachi Fujikura, develop Fujikura from a private plant to a company, and create Fujikuradensengobo & Co. With a capital of 25.000 yens (~190€).
In 1904, Fujikura’s plant is appointed as a Japan’s first rubber-insulation factory by the Department of Communication.
In 1910, Fujikura Electric Wire Corporation is established with a capital of 500.000 yens (~3800€).
In 1992, "Fujikura Electric Wire Corporation" changes to "Fujikura Ltd".
The emergence of the fiber optic activity and the short collaboration with the national Japanese operator NTT push Fujikura to develop not only the fibre optic cable but also the required equipment for fiber optic splicing: fiber optic fusion splicer, mechanical splice tool, ribbon fiber…
